Back again with fabulous fashion news is our guest writer Brett Becker...
In an industry full of look-a-likes, knock-offs and self-gratifying logos, Gretchen handbags (and accessories) are without doubt in a league of their own. Architecture meets beauty in these exceptionally elegant high-profile bags.
German designer Anne-Christin Kirsten Hofmann pulls her inspiration from the Bauhaus modernist movement based upon ideals promoting functionality fused with sophisticated style. Interesting tidbit, well-known European-based furniture brand IKEA was also founded on the very same principles.
Vivid hues and muted neutrals provide a contrasting color palate intertwined with geometrical shapes and modern simplistic themes to create a one-of-kind collection of luxury accessories crafted from only the finest Spanish and Italian leathers. According to the official website, “‘Gretchen’ is and old German name meaning ‘little pearl’ and it depicts perfectly the philosophy of the brand.” I couldn’t think of a better name considering her designs are especially chic not to mention timeless. No doubt, had Gretchen been around during the golden age of Hollywood, starlets like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly would have been her original aficionados.
Hofmann’s pieces have already dominated the pages of European fashion mags for years and have just recently started to emerge in the US. Paris Hilton is no doubt Gretchen’s most well know US admirer. The socialite has been spotted numerous times donning her coveted black quilted “Actress” clutch (how ironic!). So, I’m sure it will only be a matter of time until we start seeing “Gretchen-inspired” bags too.
