The Oscar night red carpet walk is often the most anticipated of the fashion world. Designers holding their breath as their coveted creations glide down the carpet worn by some of the world's most glam gals in the industry.
I honestly was not stunned by many of the dresses. They were either breathtakingly humble, or so-so in my humble opinion. Not much in the way of a particular color being key...but solid, was of course, the norm.
Meryl, wearing Chris March, was stunning as usual. The neckline seemed draped with ease and fell so beautifully. And Meryl isn't one I'd tag for a low neckline. She rocked it (not to mention the Jimmy Choo’s).
Miley, however, did not. She looked like a little girl trying to, yet again, fit into a grown up world. Maybe if she'd stand up straight the dress would be more complimentary. Unfortunately it just looked ill-fiitted and wrong for her. Fabrics, however, were divine! (dress Jenny Packham)
Director Kathryn Bigelow, winner of Best Director award for 'The Hurt Locker', was stunning in a simple and elegant silver fitted gown. Did you see the guns on that gal when she hoisted TWO awards? Ripped.
Speaking of fitted gowns and glamour...one cannot forget the dear Sandra Bullock. She looked like glam old Hollywood style in Marchesa metallic lace and Jimmy Choo stilettos.
Yet another fitted gown was worn by Kate Winslet (in YSL), not to mention her Tiffany necklace worth 2.5mil.
Fitted, pale tones and plenty of pilates.
For understated opulence...Demi Moore (Atelier Versace tiered blush gown and Versace heels) and Elizabeth Banks (gray Versace). Banks had so many soft layers in the skirt that it looked feather-like.
Red: Sigourney Weaver (Lanvin), Penelope Cruz (Donna Karen couture) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Carolina Herrera) in blood-red gowns. Lovely. Vera Farmiga (Marchesa) also in red but the ruffles seemed to be eating her alive.
Blues: Mariska Hargitay in Vera Wang, and Gabourey Sidibe in a cobalt blue off-the-shoulder dress by Marchesa.
For the "way out there" was Costume designer Sandy Powell for Best Costume Design award for 'The Young Victoria'. She had so many bangles that it's hard to believe she could life her own arms. But the cap she was wearing was darling.
Huge miss? Charlize Theron. Nice headlights there sister. (Dior Haute Couture). Yes, she loves the dress, and the silouhette is certainly to die for. But the first thought in my mind was "pasties".
Because SJP was in Chanel, I decided to like...but something about the hint of Grecian didn't make me covet, nor did the strange fit at the back.
Zoe Saldana (Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci ruffled purple gown) is one I wanted to love, but again, like Miley, it just didn't look well fitted. The ornate bodice seemed a bit haphazardly paired with the gown. Separately both pieces are to die for. Close-ups did more justice, on stage did not fly.
Overall I loved it, but few stood out as miraculous. Which is sort of the point of Oscar night.
