Treat your closet like a parfait! A closet full of different seasonal pieces can be seen as a challenge, or as endless possibilities of layers and wardrobe-lovin'.
Thanks to dramatically changing weather of the Midwest, I have been caught with clothes that I can only wear once before the weather changes so dramatically that I have to stuff it in the back of the closet until the right season comes again. Then I mastered the miracle of layering! You can accessorize almost anything into the next season with a little practice and a few extra pieces.
The jean skirt you wore casually to a backyard BBQ can be put on with tights and a pair of cowboy boots for fall. A short sleeve tank just needs a hoodie or jacket to make it through the colder weather. Use what you have, and your closet will stretch you through each season.
As the sun seems to slip away, sundresses seem like a definite "no" for fall. Not true. The rapidly altering autumn weather can really mess up your outfit plans. The answer is to layer it up. Add a sweater and tights for winter, or even wear with a burn-out tee under. Even sport those shorter sundresses with skinny jeans.
Pictured here is a silky dress that can be layered with leggings and a sweater with a belt to transition into fall. You don't have to spend a fortune on a totally new wardrobe for the season or unpack items of years passed. For the time being, grab a few great pieces and get creative. Practice putting outfits together. When you have a good one, take a quick photo to remind yourself later.
Right now - make sure you have a light-weight jacket. Beige or black, depending on what coordinates with most of your wardrobe. Turn a skirt and t-shirt into a casual office outfit.
Check inventory: do you have tights that are in good shape? If not, grab some the next time you're in the superstore. They don't have to be expensive, they just need to fit.
Think layers, think parfait, think ice cream. Ok, maybe that got off track. But remember that a good parfait has at least three layers. Try it with your wardrobe and let us know how it turns out!
