Color files – the trend

If you didn’t already hear, Honeysuckle is the color of 2011 per Pantone.  Pantone surveys top designers featured at NY Fashion Week each season to determine the coming color trends.

It’s so hot here in the Midwest but I dare to look toward the cooler days and nights of Fall 2011 because the color palette is surprisingly pastel-ish to me.

Deep teal is number one on my list for fall.  Seen here depicted by Cynthia Steffe.  I’m on the hunt now for my deep teal fall item.  Thinking of pairing it with a brown tone…camel, caramel or coffee.

“Designers take a painterly approach to fall 2011 by artfully combining bright colors with staple neutrals, reminiscent of how an artist would construct a stunning work of art,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Much like a painter’s masterpiece, there is a certain romance to this season’s palette.”

What to look for now?  Neutrals are fabulous year round.  Find a fabulous tank in a taupe or camel color that can later be worn with a darker colored cardigan or jacket.  Great with jeans, or a skirt.  Day to night and transitional….all out of one beautiful tank.

For the love of bags

I long for the day that I can shop at a Lulu Guiness store right here in Kansas City.  I won’t hold my breath.  For now I window shop the web site on a regular basis experiencing an inner struggle to pick any single favorite.

Today to what do my wandering eyes appear, but a sale and a loads of choices and the signature lips….oh dear.

My heart leapt at the Black Medium Cosmetic Shop Edith from the Autumn Winter collection.  It’s been influenced by Lulu’s love of make-up. Here is Lulu’s very own cosmetic shop! Beautiful detail is depicted on the front of this Black Medium Cosmetic Shop Edith in 3D embroidery, applique paper and felt.  Was $370 now $185.  I adore the Edith bags for their sassy scenes.

Lulu and I share the love of makeup and it’s no surprise that she wouldn’t leave out any essential detail on this makeup bag. With it’s iconic stripe design and easy to clean laminate it’s lovely already…add to the fact that it has a detachable round mirror in end compartment…it’s chic and smart. On sale now for $29.75, was $42.50.

It seems I’ve finally been able to play favorites and choose a bag.

WAIT…another one I cannot resist showing you because if you are going to do LG then you need to do it big, at least once…..

The Black Cherry Smalll Doll Face Wanda
It’s all in the eyes! This season Lulu has updated the best selling Doll Face collection by giving her black cherry hair, this bag is perfect if you wish to add some wit to your outfit. The bag shows the eyes open on one side and closed on the reverse. Black patent gussets and handles.  $390.00.  Definitely going on the wish list.  As I’ll be celebrating a huge milestone birthday in November, feel free to talk amongst yourselves about this gift idea.  wink, wink.

Enjoy window shopping dah-lings.

Clear Summer Skin

For some, summer sends waves of bad skin mojo bouncing back and forth between dry and oily breakouts.  I know, not the best topic for early morning chats so let’s get down to the business of fighting back.

A little bird told me that it’s Acne Awareness Month.  Did not know that.  Interesting….

What to do about it?  Peter Thomas Roth offers a solution…the Acne Buster Kit.

Deep clean pores, eliminate whiteheads and blackheads, diminish wrinkles and fine lines and stimulate cellular turnover. Balancing ingredients, such as Trikenol™, aloe vera, willow bark and pro vitamin B5, work to minimize inflammation, irritation, bacteria and scarring.

A five piece travel size kit valued at $51 for just $35.

Find this and other acne fighting products here.

Fave Summer Footwear

Sometimes I just can’t be bothered get out to the stores with my 3 monsters in tow.  It’s already hot and muggy at nearly 9am and I am not out of my pjs.  Time to shop the web for some new summer sandals.

Piperlime is having a great shoe sale. I love the neutral color of this Kenneth Cole Reaction sandal to coordinate with most any outfit. Was $79 now just $46.99.

Get sassy with this Via Spiga sandal at DSW.com for $109.95 available in burnt orange, black and tan. Great for those who want a lower heel without passing up a smoking hot look.

Which are your favorites for the season?  We’d love to know!

Look slightly sunkissed without the harmful rays with True Blue® Spa Glow and Steady daily moisturizer and gradual self tanner with SPF 15. Now just $7.5. Apply daily and see gradual tan in a few days while getting great moisture each day.

Nail down your summer colors

Are you one that changes your nail color weekly?  Or just does well to have any on at all?  We have great choices for either.

If you need a nail color that will forgive you for not touching up each week go for something nude. Just use a strong top coat to make it last longer. Sephora “Don’t Feed the Hand Models” is a light beige-pink color.

Get wild like a hot Havana night with Sephora’s mini collection, inspired by the sophisticated glamour of the Havana depicted in classic movies, as well as by this summer’s penchant for vivid color.

Want that swirl look? Apply one color and let it dry completely. Then apply a drop of your second color and gently drag it about the nail with a toothpick or other small object. Once it dries cover with top coat. There are many techniques for this but this was the shortest and easiest for us. Search online for video tutorials.

Summer weddings & skin care help

Summer is fast approaching, which can mean many things: longer days, more time outdoors, warm summer air and leisurely vacations. Unfortunately, often times our skin takes a vacation of its own, going from predictable to completely out of whack. This can be caused by the temperature change, outdoor elements or not changing your skincare routine in accordance to the weather.

One of the most common complaints during the summer months is a sudden surge in breakouts. The hot, sticky air mixed with that cream foundation you wore all winter creates an undesirable mixture of gunk on the surface of your skin.

Keeping pores cleaned out is the best way to prevent an increase in breakouts when the weather becomes warmer, so switch from a creamy cleanser to a gel-based foaming cleanser that contains glycolic such as DERMAdoctor Litmus Test Glycolic Acid Cleansing Gel ($25, www.dermadoctor.com). A glycolic cleanser will balance your skin’s pH; cleanse away impurities, environmental debris and excess oil, all things that are the instigators of breakouts.
