I don’t recall having ever written about weddings, wedding dresses or anything about the affair. But I’ve seen a few dresses that remind me things have come a long way since ages ago when I was looking for the perfect dress.

I partnered with David’s Bridal to look for fashion forward wedding dresses and this is what I found:
The first dress that caught my eye was a plus size dress. I was surprised that it managed to still give a dainty look with a trendy Grecian style. The bodice draws the eye up and elongates the body. Perfect for a curvy girl.

Personally I would lean toward the dramatic because it’s the one day you can and are expected to be the princess (unless you are me and you throw parties so that you can again dress like a princess).
Dramatic and lovely –>
The drop waist creates a long looking torso and the floral appliquéd skirt makes me want to try it on and twirl around. While this dress comes in a dizzying array of sizes it is not for every body type.

This gown takes me to a happy place. The style is simple yet fashion forward. I could show you a hundred tops and dresses with the same neckline. Good for many body types. Dainty with its lace. Beautiful.

While you’re at it, give your Bridesmaids something they can get future use out of.Don’t be a meanie and dress them in some ridiculous frock that they will laugh at 10 years from now when you’re going through your album together.
Pistachio is a nut, not a color that many people can wear well.
This blue floral dress pictured comes in a black and white option – is beautiful and wearable for other uses.
Pewter is a great color for any occasion. Great to fall back on and glamorous!
The wedding preparations do not need to be dramatic. Take a breath and pick something. Only the dress should be dramatic in my humble opinion.

Spring runway trends give us a wide range of beautiful neutral colors that make me want to break out the gold jewelry. Gold seems to get a bad rap as too “old” looking to wear with hip new trends. Not so. You just need the right pieces to compliment the outfit.
I prefer understated gold jewelry but found a few pieces that might start a conversation or two that I couldn’t resist at ShopNBC.com.

The Happy Buddah pendant. $42. Multigem rope detail ring $286.44
The 14K gold multi gem polished necklace features five amethyst, five brown quartz, five yellow citrine, five topaz and five green prasiolite, all round briolette cut 6mm stone. An investment piece for your wardrobe with brilliant gemstones that add just the right finishing touch without looking too “matchy.” The array of hues enhances the versatility of this design so that you can create endless coordinating and contrasting jewelry ensembles with your existing rings, bracelets and earrings. With a bit of imagination, this lively color combination will carry your look through many seasons with spectacular style.
Which pieces do you love?

If you are stumped on what to do in order to give your wardrobe a new look turn to this season’s fabulous selection of jackets, blazers and cardigans.
On a budget? Buy neutral and a few different scarves to change the look more often.
Or one inexpensive jacket and one cardigan.
This jacket by Ella Moss, the Frida Military Jacket
, adds sharpness to a more feminine top. Brass buttons, seamed shoulders and cuffs, piping that trims the edge of stand-up collar. Not exactly a penny pincher’s dream with a $200+ price tag, but at least take some inspiration from it.
From the Basics Collection at Dillards, single-button jackets by Gianni Bini. I like the one button because the low “V” it creates is usually good for several body types, large and small chests. Let’s you wear something as basic as a scoop neck shell or as fun as a ruffle trim blouse.
Macy’s
is having a coat sale right now and included are several fabulous jackets. Something a bit more flirty and feminine, plus lightweight: this knit jacket with ruffle trim. Smokey Brown color is great for your fall wardrobe. The shape, hitting just at the hip bone, helps give good proportion to your silhouette. Was $59 now $32.99. Great steal!
Hopefully these give you some inspiration and motivation! Happy shopping!

I suppose it’s been a long time coming, though I maybe didn’t realize it until it was right in front of my face, that I’d open a boutique. All this talking the talk, now is turning into walking the walk.
True to the humble Haute Market beginnnings that got me to this place, I’ll be supporting local small biz women with their desires and dreams to have their own successful boutique biz by allowing them a beautiful retail space to show off their finds.
The new boutique, Stiletto, will be not only apparel and accessories I love and want to share, but also a collection of some of my favorite buyers and boutiques.
A collaboration of talented women who want to bring fashion foward attire to the women in this area, focusing on current trends and ignoring fads. Providing fabulous clothes expertly chosen and ensembles appropriate no matter the age or shape.
Yes, we’re even working on getting a nice plus-size line. That is not easy as many designers are shying away from the difficult task of providing fit and fashion for the non-model body types.
So if you are one of the two people who follow this blog
you’ll now know why the posts have been so few and far between these last few weeks. Negotiating a commercial lease and preparing to open a store in a two month time frame is simply NOT the way to go should you like sleep and sanity. I’m not used to enjoying either of those so it’s business as usual here.
Stiletto Boutique is set to open the week before Thanksgiving. Considering the construction crew only started two days ago, this will be an extreme makeover boutique-edition. So if you are in the area of 151st & Blackbob in Olathe, swing through the Starbucks drive through and on your way out you’ll be facing the humble (but fabulous) beginnings of Stiletto Boutique just across the driveway.
Stay tuned for all the fun of building a store from the ground up (minus the fun of the negotiating process and lots of f-bombs) as my partners and I go through this madness to bring something fresh and exciting to the women in KC.
September 13th, 2010 — Fashion Week, Kansas City, fashion, sale, shopping
It’s spring fashion week in New York but we’re celebrating fall right here in the Midwest. Of course since we have nothing better to do than tip cows and watch college football, we’re all an excited lot when we can see others putting away their flip flops and wife-beater shirts for something that more thoroughly covers the redneck skin.
Because some of us actually follow a bit of fashion and cannot WAIT for a seasonal shift in the weather to bring out some boots so we can go stomp cow patties in the cornfields.(that is for you coastal peeps who think we really do all those things, plus assume we still have outhouses and all live on farms).
Sooooo…..this week the Haute team is excited about two fabulous fall fashion events:
Two Chic Blvd, located in south Overland Park KS, is celebrating their 2nd annual Fall Fashion Week with fabulous new merch on the racks, sales all week and a Girl’s Night on Thursday. Just a handful of what you’ll find:
Knee Boot $185.00, blue top $43.00, grey dress $135.00 with black sweater $42.00, Top with rosette embellishment $28.00, orange sweater/shrug $52.00
Visit www.twochicblvd.com for hours and GNO details. Prizes, discounts and more!
Also this week is a fashion show at feng Boutique in Overland Park, KS.

Feng, an Asian inspired lifestyle boutique, brings bold style, sophistication, enrichment and worldly adventure to shoppers. Offering the finest in runway-hot designer clothing, home accessories and antiques, the Feng retail experience interweaves traditional Chinese culture with the 21st century.
Proprietor Beth Zollars travels to the other side of the world seeking out antiques and accessories that expand cultural and social boundaries. She then cross-merchandises items in warm, inviting room-scapes to create the unique sophisticated style of Feng.
Feng carries some of the hottest names in runway fashion including Peter Som, Chan Luu, Anna Sui, Richard Chai and Yoanna Baraschi.

Maybe I’m in a state of denial but I refuse to think the economy is so bad that woman has to wear a dress that looks two sizes too big or a skirt that is not the right length for her. And maybe because I’d stay in rather than face either of the above scenarios doesn’t help either. There is a solution my fashion-seeking friends! And a relatively inexpensive one.
Alterations! If you think everyone else out there is wearing perfectly fitted clothing straight off the rack, you’re so sadly mislead. I will say that designer clothing is often better fitted than a Superstore $16 item, but still…it’s not a large percentage of the population, so don’t feel bad. Find a fabulous alterations shop and go crazy.
Those jeans that gape open in the back and give us an unsolicited peek….have them taken in. Not only cures the gap, but a tiny extra tightening pulls in the lower abdomen a bit. It’s like a girdle in your denim! Tops that look shaped more like an A than an hourglass? Find out if the waist can be brought in just a smidge. You might find a figure lurking under there!
Two of my faves…
Well Tailor near 143rd & Metcalf in Overland Park, KS. Closest to me and also raved about by my friends at Two Chic Blvd Boutique.
Blu Jeanius in Westwood, KS. A denim boutique with alterations store attached. Free alterations on purchases there!
February 25th, 2010 — Kansas City, Uncategorized, local designers, shopping
A local Kansas City designer, Christian Michael, was added this week to the growing list of boutiques and designers making up the collective at
The Garment District. Just west of the Power & Light District, entertainment area, the Garment District name hales from that of the actual Kansas City garment district which has a museum nearby.
What can you buy at the Garment District in downtown Kansas City?
Designer denim at a wide range of prices, vintage and re-worked jewelry, trendy clothing for women and men, accessories and so much more.
This week is packed with grand opening celebrations and sales. Check it out and feel free to sip a cosmo (my personal fave) as you browse the shop.

A special Saturday post about Red White and Boom – Mix 93.3′s fabulous summer concert in Kansas City. (
RWB FAQ’s)

It has come to my attention that several fashionistas are at a loss for what to wear to the concert today. Never fear…your KC Fashionista is here for you.

Halter tops are “in” and sold just about everywhere. I found a fun, cool top at Macys.com and it’s on sale for $25.11. We have several Macy’s locations here in the KC metro and they open at 10am. Plenty of time to grab this top (in Jr’s section) and get to the concert.
White shorts are so hot right now, but probably not a good idea for a 9 hour concert.

I’m opting for my denim shorts and of course will be wearing my Haute Market t-shirt, which will be on sale at the event for just $10 each! If we find you wearing a Haute Market shirt or carrying one of our bags around…you just might score a set of tickets to the next Haute Market event!
Back to your fashion hunt:
Please…can you ditch the flip flops for a comfortable, fashionable pair of open-toe beauties?
When you visit the Haute Market booth to meet Drew of Drew6, do you really want to be wearing a sloppy outfit and flips? NO!
Get shopping girls, then get your cutie booty to the concert at Sandstone. Make sure you visit the Haute Market booth, found near the main stage and across from the VIP area. We’ll be featuring hair extensions by Lulu Salon for just $5, Haute Market event tickets, Haute Market t-shirts PLUS a visit from Drew and the guys who will be giving away several hundred of their new CD’s and you can get a new Drew6 t-shirt for just $15!
The Haute booth is definitely going to be the hot-spot!
